Hi All,

What’s up?

Well I have been really happy. The great thing about radio survey at Power (Sept 1st through October 24th) is that we have more time to develop our show material and really focus on our content. Normally, we have lots of other work which competes with our time!

On the weekend we had the Power 98 Carvivor Rally. This year it was co-sponsored by teh Traffic Police and was all about road courtesy and getting sporty. I had a great time shooting hoops and chatting with Candyce from Jia. Our station was located at Mount Sophia and was pretty much out in the very hots sun for 8 hours. We had McDonalds delievered for lunch and ate under the tent. There was only room for two under the shade however, so we all had to rotate! Thank heavens for the volunteers from Temasek Polytechnic however, they gave fab roving reports and pretty much ran the whole show! Amazing and they were really great! Pictures above!

That evening, after I went home and slept! I went out to my very good friend Cindy’s birthday and it was soooo good to see her. She is a person I first met in 2006, one year into my stay in Singapore, she saw me through some of my toughest times, when I was hardly working and could barely paythe rent! I love her and she is super supportive of all I do! Pic above!

Last week some of the press from my Manila press tour came out as well. It’s above!

I hope you’re all still well and a big reminder to keep it to Power 98’s Afetr Hours. 8-12am weeknights!

New Showreel!

The Weekend: Mum in Singapore

dscn2872-medium.JPGdscn2867-medium.JPGdscn2862-medium.JPGdscn2861-medium.JPGHi All,

What a great weekend I had from the 8th to 10th August. Saturday night I hung out with Harry and a couple of other great mates at Cafe Iguana. Not that I didn’t want to get in on the NDP action but I didn’t have tickets and traffic in that area was diabolical.

My my mum was in town for her RGS reunion and it was  super fun! She and I went to P.S Cafe for brunch and she brought along with her a couple of great students from her time in Singapore. After that, I took her to the spa and made sure she had a great relaxing massage and simply chilled out!

We ended the day by watching “The Swordfish, then the Concubine” at the Singapore Theatre Festival. It was very enjoyable and my mate Yu Beng was in it and did great! The play and the festival as a whole is supported by Power98FM. Definately worth supporting the Singaporean arts if you get a chance to go!

Manila

I know it’s been a long time! I apologise. I have been on leave in Manila where I did a press tour for my work regionally. A lot of people in Singapore only know me as a radio DJ and columnist but I have been working on regional TV for over 3 years and I have a nice fan base there who are warm and kind. I decided to go and visit them all while I was on leave and hosted the re-launch  of ABC5 now TV5 Manila. I also got to shoot for “Sugar Sugar”, “FHM”, “Maxim”, “Metro”, “Mega”, “Meg”, “Manual”, “People Asia” and guested on “Umaga Kay Ganda” and was even followed around on “VIP Access”.

Biggest thankyou in the world must go to Edsa Shangrila for putting me up and being so amazingle hospitable. If you ever want or need to go to Manila then it is THE place to stay!

Without more chatter, here are some of the pics from my camera…….

Me at Tweety but not so Chirpy!

Hi,

I’m so sorry it’s been ages since I’ve blogged. It’s been hectic up until now with exciting changes to Power 98’s programming. In the lead up to After Hours, so the last 5 weeks, I have been somewhat of a hermit. Now that I am working nights I don’t got out much either. Added to that is the fact that I work Saturdays, which means that I only have Sunday off, then most of the time I exercise and grocery shop for the coming week. Boring, I know.

So when the lovely people at Tweety clothing invited me to their clothing launch and gave me a whopping lot of clothes, I could hardly say no? Plus their event was on a Saturday so I could go! It was after another event I was hosting the launch of Viva Perodua for Power 98 (pics above). After Tweety I had planned to join a guy I was dating for a relaxing evening of DVD watching. Well things went horribly wrong!

I got home and got all dressed up, including fake eyelashes and all! In the cab on the way to Bugis Junction Square where Tweety was held the guy cancelled on me! Via sms! One hour before meeting! Just like that! I have never cancelled on someone that late in the game EVER. Worst, was the complete inconsideration, this guy knew I’d be upset because I told him that cancelling for me was a deal-breaker. He also knew I was on my way to this event and was already ready and everything. I felt so low and used that I started to cry, not just because of him, also because I was exhausted and had been looking forward to a nice evening. Tears wear running down my face. I had mascara smudges everywhere and an oily, sweaty face. Then I realised I left my powder at home. I had the PR girl texting me to find out if I was on my way because I was late!

Now most people would just have turned around and gone home and I was so angry and upset by the time I got to Bugis that I did think about it. But I do feel letting others down is extremely disrespectful. So I went and showed my sad face! I was sweaty and flustered and the minute I got into the event a photographer pulled me over and I tried to pretend I was happy and smile but I just had to force it. I felt indebted to the lovely people who had invited me and I don’t cancel on invites, especially when I am given free stuff, it’s just not courteous. So this whole long story is to explain why I look so upset in this photo above, trying to keep my eyes open from crying.

Instead of going home straight after Tweety, I was lucky that Jensen was hosting and he gave me a big hug. It made me feel heaps better. I then got some really nice wine that they had there and took a swig. I went to visit my mate Michael and he had a bunch of mates over, we all watched Casino and then a model from the Tweety show walked in. She was friends with Michael and she had bought Tweety Polar Puff Cakes from the show. We cut the  cakes up and I did my best Bridget Jones and sunk my teeth into the sweet icing! In the end, it was a great night with real friends who don’t cancel, and me dressed in Tweety, eating Tweety. It was all so sweet!

So you’re in highschool and are getting picked on because you are a little cuddly around the edges. Maybe you are like I was, a total nerd with almost straight A’s (I always got a B in Physical Education) and on every comittee from Drama to Debating. Well, fear not, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. In fact many of my most good looking and successful friends (who have kindly put their newly ”made over” selves on the line and handed over the shocking pictures above) were not the hot jocks or the beauty queens back in the day. To celebrate my brand new show After Hours from 9pm to 1am weeknights I have pulled some serious strings and have gotten a TOTAL BODY MAKE OVER  together and that’s up for grabs for the best set of BEFORE and AFTER shots.

Remy Mitchell Low Personal Training (he trains Hossan and I and almost every other celebrity/high flyer in Singapore)  is giving our winner a one and a half hour consultation and training session valued at $200! So you’ll be more fabulous than flabulous.

My favourite hairdresser in the world, with the most immaculate service in Singapore: Andy Leck from Salon Le Point  (located at the Regent Hotel, 6385 0880), has kindly given our beast to beauty a hair services voucher valued at a whopping $200!

If acne is your issue, we also  have a $100 beauty hamper up for grabs. It’s jam-packed with Johnson and Johnson face wash, Jennifer Lopez perfume and even manicure and pedicure kits!

If you have great skin but need a little lesson in make-up. Well our lovely friends at Bourjois are giving our luck winner (if they’re a girl) a “Clubbing Look Makeup Set.” This includes mascara, menthol lip gloss, clubbing powder and lipstick! I’ve tried the mascara and gloss and it was amazing. There is now no reason to be hiding in the shadows-get out into the spotlight former nerdettes!

All YOU need to do is send me your happy and not-so-happy snaps to afterhours@power98.com.sg. Make sure the attachments are small, about 70kb is just fine. I’ll post it up here and at the end of June we’ll judge who has undergone the biggest transformation and they’ll walk away with $500 worth of make-over services courtesy of Bourjois cosmetics, Salon Le Point, Remy Mitchell Low: Trainer to the Stars, Power 98 and After Hours with Simone, 9pm-1am weekdays, only on Power 98.

Hi Guys,

Guess what! I’ll soon be on air in the weekdays again but can’t say too much now. Please tune into Power 98 over the next 2 weeks to find out. I had a  great weekend and went to celebrate with my new show with my Uncle KS.

On Saturday morning I attended a seminar at The Chinese Chamber of Commerce here in Singapore. It explained how foreign students of Mandarin plateau in their learning. I will soon enroll for Mandarin lessons beginning in July and will relish the chance to put this theory into practice. I studied Chinese at university in 2007 and found the basics fine, but I did reach a plateau. It isn’t as easy to learn as German (which I already speak). In the evening I went to the Shangrila for the launch of a new wine vintage, some very interesting people. I spoke with a Monsieur Dologne who is the head of a large wine-making family in Bordeux. Despite all his wealth, amazingly successful family and his exposure to all the finest in life he was neither snobbish or arrogant. This man was so humble and charming that meeting him will forever be a reminder to me of the importance of humility…always.

On Sunday I got up early and devoured Adeline Yen-Mah’s “Falling Leaves” a masterful tale of growing up in a turbulent yet wealthy Chinese family. I then went straight out and bought Barack Obama’s “Dreams From My Father.” It seems that I really have become a grandmother and enjoy the three “R’s” on the weekend: Resting, Reading and Running. After reading I went with my Uncle to visit the Singapore Flyer. It was a wonderful experience to see Singapore from high up. A lot of the construction did remind me of Hong Kong and I hope the city doesn’t ever become as polluted or cramped for space…although I must say I love Hong Kong’s energy!

In the evening I read some more then turned on the radio for my show Sunday Recovery. I listened to my show from 7 to 8:30pm and then rushed over to the TV and turned on HBO to watch my show “HBO Central.” I also bought my column on Saturday. It’s funny that once a month all the three things I do collide on one weekend. Sometimes I wish my Mum or sister was here to see! But bottom line is, it’s important to watch back your work, critique it and always look for ways to make it better. Never be satisfied or your skills will plateau…not unlike learning Mandarin!

Chat soon. Love you lots!
