A Destroyer & A Cheat!

It was The Morning Jam’s ‘Get Dress in the Dark’ challenge where we close our eyes & pick out our clothes for the day. Hossan & Joe turned up looking NORMAL & COORDINATED while i look like an aunty going to the wet market!

Also its only the 1st week of the all new Morning Jam & Joe has already managed to destroy the Power98 sign in the studio!

Here are the pics - oh & we’ve got a new blog - www.morningjam.com

Check out the sad state the sign was in when we left the studio!

Crazy Times!

Its been crazy! Late nite shoots for the Calsberg Euro 2008 Preview show on Channel 30 Starhub, waking up @ 5am for the Morning Jam on Power 98, trying to work on opening a homeware store with my dad. Its definetely been a challenge trying to fit it all in! But no complains, its tiring but I’m having fun (except for the waking up @ 5am bit)

The Euro shoots have been an experience! Its my first time doing TV & just the prep time needed for hair & make-up before each shoot makes me appreciate my radio job all the more- where we can just rock up looking like we just got of bed & still sound entertaining. The shoots have taken me round the island where I’ve met some truly passionate football fans. They dedication to the game never fails to amaze me! Waking up at 2.45am for the game & going straight to work after! Wow! If only men showed the same amount of dedication & passion in a relationship!

Just the 3 of us- the crew!Euro 2008 Preview Show ShootJust call her The Magician

Here’s the crew I work with on the show- the outdoor crew of us 3 girls fighting off the drunk men @ the many bars we’ve visited! And of course the magician - my hair & makeup artist-Haslina.

Mornings are a blast these days. The boys are insane & I love it. The best part? I don’t what we’re gonna get up to every morning. So far we’ve already managed to get Joe to sing Karen White’s superwoman with Hossan doing back up (haha…joe sounded like Elvis doing a Karen white song!), we’ve played a hilarious computer game called Puzzle Farter on-air where the objective is for the character to fly around by farting, we’ve found out what sort of dog we would be through a personality quiz & the boys put my dad on air! Tomorrow’s challenge- getting dressed with our eyes closed (as in we’re not allowed to open our eyes as we pick what to wear tomorrow). Boy- that could go really wrong!

Stay tune for more madness- & keep those comments coming! :)

Full Circle

Joe-just as scary in the mornings! At 6, my eyes are non-existent!Hossan- grumpy, no coffee yet!Cupcakes! Yum!

Not so long ago I was planning what to do with myself during my 6 month break, & now I’m back!

I bought a round the world trip ticket, visited lots of cool places, took up cooking & mandarin lessons & put the wheels in motion to start a business with my dad. I enjoyed every moment of my time off as it helped remind me of whats important in life. Sometimes we can get so caught up with work that we don’t realise that its such a small part of what we do & who we are.

So I find myself in a slightly different situation, from managing the stations to becoming an on-air talent again. I swore I would never do the morning show cause’ I’m so NOT a morning person but hey…things have a funny way of working out.

The partnership with Joe & Hossan happened quite by chance. Its an old-new situation if there is such a term. Joe - I’ve worked with before (off the air) from years back when he was my boss as Programme Manager (PM) of the station, then I became his boss when I took over as PM. But we’ve always had a great respect for each other & wanted an opportunity to work together.

Hossan I’ve partnered on air before on a few occassions when his then partner went on leave & I’ve always known him as an energiser bunny with a heart of gold!

So the combination is zany, weird & some say wrong even. It’d probably will be hard to find 3 people who are more different on 1 show, but I think thats why it would work. Its totally unpredictable & we have been having so much fun on the show. We hope you get a sense of that when you tune in!

Here’s the 3 of us @ 6 in the morning with our mini cupcake celebration :) I’m gonna need more alarm clocks & wake up calls to get up @ 5, but I really can’t think of a better way to return to what I love doing most - being on radio. I’m genuinely excited about the new partnership & the show & I hope you’ll give us a chance to be a part of your mornings.

Goodbye….for a little while!

Its tough saying goodbye especially when you’ve been around for over 10 years.

Power98 celebrated its 13th birthday recently and I can still rememeber all those years ago when I first joined the station. Eager, keen to make a good impression and of course nervous. My first ‘live’ radio show, I was shaking so much I opened my mouth and nothing came out. Marcus the DJ who was ‘babysitting’ me then had to thump me on the back really hard to signal that I had to talk or risk being fired for dead air (when there’s silence on radio).

Then!

Yes, I’ve moved on since then, and now I do the thumping :P But after all these years, its time to take a little break. Some people call it a sabbatical, I call it time off to chill and maybe …..get in touch with myself again.

I will be going on a journey….around the world and I can’t wait. Who knows where and what it will bring and what I will learn. That’s the exciting thing about life right?

Come with me on my adventures, I’ll be leaving tracks & pictures on my facebook page. Find me- Shareen Wong. Where in the world will I be? Log on and find out.

I hope to talk to you soon, it’ll be a few months but I miss radio already!

doing what i do best :)

Commited?

OK daily blog updates are tough! But I’ll going to try ok? BEAR with me!

We’ve all met the commitment phobes. Maybe at some pt in our lives, we were the culprits. Saw an article on MSN about the signs that the person u’re with is not going to want to take it to the next level.

Sign #1-They have a life and u’re not welcomed! You hear them say they wish they could work less to be with you, they’re always busy and they never have time. You’ve heard sorry about a million times and u’re sick of it? Well if they want to be with u they’re gonna make time!

Sign #2- They are falling….way too fast? Sure its a great feeling when you’re flushed with the excitment of a new love, but declaring their undying love for u and professing they want to spend the rest of their life with you….too soon is bad news. They might just be in love with the idea of being in an ideal relationship.

Sign #3- They change they mind- constantly. One min they want their space, next min they’re asking you to move in? Changing their mind constantly and indecisiveness is not a good sign if u’re hoping for a stable romantic future.

Sign #4- All Talk & No Walk! Wah! this sounds super familiar right? They talk about how they would like to be in a relationship in time to come, but that it never seems to happen. You keep pushing for more, he keeps talking but no action.

Its frustrating when you want more in a relationship and you just can’t seem to get the other person to give it to you. Do u stick around and hope they’ll be commited in time to come or do u just throw in the towel? My take? Go with your instinct. All too often we let our heart drown out what our instinct tells us… and end up paying the price for it.

Lost @ Sea!

Our sister station 883Jia planned a special challenge onboard the Star Cruise. They needed help and I was roped in.

cruise-2007-007-small.jpgVodka & me….ahhh all is in the world again!Yes…LOVELY! Dark skies ahead!

I can’t remember the last time I had to share the room with 3 others! How do 4 girls share a bathroom and be expected to make it to anything on time? This would take some serious coordination. I needed a plan!

So I did the only thing I could to work it out- hit the BAR!!! Duty free prices….whats not to like?

I managed to talk the girls into playing cards for who would get up first the next day to use the bathroom @ 7am to start getting ready. Game of choice? UNO. Great plan? Yup except I was incredibly rusty and had crappy cards….so I LOST!!!!!! :(

Next morning, dragged myself out of bed (yes got up @ 7.10am). Got dressed, put on tons of sunblock (after previous bad experience in the sun…see entry below about BOTEF) and was all set to be a helper for the challenge after a nice breakfast when I realised it was raining cats & dogs! See nice gloomy sky behind me? (and bottle of sunblock on table?)

The challenge was moved to a sheltered area and everything went great (phew!) Oh so I thought I’d give myself a treat- wash & blow my hair….why not huh? Checked out the hairdresser on board, asked the price…$50 for a wash & blow! I thought she was joking. I asked her 3 times to be sure before I decided no way was I going to pay that amount and settled instead on having a freshly squeezed orange juice while sitting on the sun deck reading my book. (oh by then…sun was out)

OK back to more work before we decided that it was back to another round of cards. We played Uno & heart attack (haha! remember this game? we were so noisy!) and I decided that maybe the best way to win this time was to get my fellow card players drunk! SO I introduced them to LEMONDROPS! The best tasting shot! Half shot of contreau, half shot vodka, slice of lemon dipped in sugar. Down the shot and suck on the lemon last. YUM!

haha lemondrops!

Our rowdiness attracted a whole bunch of young disciples who wanted to join us in playing UNO. So we taught them! Amazing! They learnt the game super fast and within 1 game they were thrashing us and ‘intercepting’ our cards! The 5 year old with the cheeky smile next to me was so cute!

our young disciples!

And here making funny faces! OK….they were supposed to as well!!!

Sabo! why is just me with the funny face?

Next morning prize giving, pack up & back to sleeping in my own bed! (yay!)

Not before a final pic with the Jia girls who were great on the trip. Check them out on 883JiaFM. Only station in Sin with a bilingual mix of Mandarin & English love songs :) They’re such a positive & fun buch to work with!

me & the jia crew

Superpoke! Throw me a Sheep or just buy me a drink!

Yup Facebook! Was asked by a friend to sign up and now I’m just one of the many who have succumbed.

OK gotta admit, I quite like the idea of throwing food or gross things at people (like skid mark pants, jar of lard etc. haha!) but i realised I’m quite a private person and don’t necessarily want to be found by all these long lost friends from school!!!! (there is a reason we didn’t keep it touch!)

No but not all contact has been unwelcomed. I have found some friends again who I meant to keep in touch with. Oh yes…and have u checked out what your exes have been up to as well? Ha! Couldn’t resist right?

So if u’re on as well, buy me a drink, I’ll try to return the favour :)

I spent the weekend on star cruise! That’s another story altogether….coming up next!

Little Piece of Heaven!

 Lemon Cupcake! Mmmmm! PLUS DONUTS!!!!

 TO COPE WITH….

My mess!!

Do the pics say it all?

I started the day with my FAV lemon cupcake! Its soooo good! moist, and buttery. Super ‘pang’ topped with lemon icing thats sweet yet lemony! Oooh! all lemon fans must try! (my pic does not do it justice k) From Marmalade Pantry & worth every cent! Also check out the nutella chocolate cupcake. Its so rich you’ll have problems talking after cause its so sticky & gooey! YUM SCRUM!! (BTW they have new outlet @ HV! Very exciting!)

Just when I thought thats enough sugar for the day, Mags returns with 2 dozen donuts! WAH!!!!

No wonder the Power crew are all putting on weight! Haha!

But thank god for these little pieces of heaven. Sometimes its all u need to make it through the day! :)

Stretch & Spit!

If i just try hard enough….Ready…..Spit!

STRETCHHHH!Registration at 7am! Help!They came! they conquered!

Sounds gross right? Thats how I spent my sunday watching in amusement at 600 people do just that!

Power98’s Carvivor Rally- which other car rally can win $10kcash in 1 day?

5 checkpts and I was stationed at Sin Min Autohub new’s showroom. The challenge? For the teams to transfer water from a pail to a cup using only straws. Oh the pail is 1 side, the cup is on the other side and in b/w is a box 2 meters long which they CANNOT step into.

So imagine lah, all sort of ballet moves came out. People holding on to their teammates leg so that can stretch as far in as possible into the box to make it easier for their mates on the other side to use the straws to fill the cups.

Yeah…kind of felt sorry for them…but hey its $10K! AND surprise surprise most people gave feedback that they really enjoyed the challenges….some even said especially this one!

I promise we’ll think up more GROSS ones next year! HAHa!

She’s a STAR!

Got an sms from my mum in the morning. “My colleague says u’re in a magazine, which one?”

I replied to say that the nice people from Simply Her did a short interview and its featured on the last page of this month’s (Oct) issue.

Oct’s Simply Her!

The reply from mum was “Wow my daughther is a celeb!” I knew she was joking so I brushed it off only to receive a reply that brought tears to my eyes. “You are (a star) in dad’s, bro’s and my eyes! Keep up the good work!”

I’ve been going through a rather tough time lately (personal life) and my mum has been fantastic. At every opportunity she lets me know that she’s there for me and is there to support me every step of the way.

To me SHE’s the real STAR!

PS.. which celeb would I most like to spend the day with & when was the last time I felt truly contented? read all about it in this months Simply Her Mag :)
